Redefining college band style, the SU band's success is measured by excitement of its vast and diverse audiences. Look around during any band performance and the crowd is definitely tuned-in and captured by the powerful sound and talent of the co-ed musicians. Halftime performances find fans of all ages rocking to the beat of the drumline, or swaying to the familiar sound of a top-40 tune, and being mesmerized by the creative dance moves of the fast-stepping band members and dance team.Dubbed the "Human Jukebox" years ago, the SU band has achieved legendary status as one of the nation's top collegiate bands. Dedicated to the art of music through providing fresh and unique entertainment with a creative flare, the 215 member band enjoys a long list of awards and achievements and has a resume of appearances on local, national, and international stages.The band has performed around the world, including performances for three United Stated presidential inaugurations, four Sugar Bowl and five Super Bowl appearances, as well as appearances in Reliant Stadium, the Superdome, Georgia Dome, Yankee Stadium Coliseum, and the famed Radio City Music Hall for six weeks. The band also has appeared on several national television shows, in two of film director Spike Lee's production, and an award-winning documentary by NFL Films.
Marching Band Partituras
In the summer of 2000, the SU band was featured in the Bermuda Day parade and also performed a live concert for the citizens of Bermuda. In 2002, the band out performed more than 20 college bands to win Motown Record's marching band competition for black college bands. Southern took home the top prize of $10,000 cash. In 2004, the Southern University Marching Bands was the only band in the country ever featured on ABC's Nightline. In 2008, the Human Jukebox was named "Best Dressed Band" by fashion magazine. The band takes pride in its appearance and performance. In 2010, the band performed for the NFC Championship Game between the New Orleans Saints and the Minnesota Vikings. Perhaps the most significant and historic moment recently for the Southern University Marching Band was when the New Orleans Saints returned home to the Louisiana Superdome on August 25, 2006, after Hurricane Katrina devastation. Southern University's world-renowned Human Jukebox entertained more than 70,000 fans during halftime.
As one of the premier bands in the nation, the Blue and Gold Marching Machine is synonymous with high stepping performances, precise drills, powerful, yet melodic sounds, and energy! As the premier band of North Carolina and ranking high among the top HBCU Marching Bands, the Blue & Gold Marching Machine of NC A&T State University is a force to be reckoned with!
The band performs at a variety of school and community functions and consists of approximately 200 members from very diverse majors and concentrations. The band is an auditioned group. The audition is open to all students of the university who wish to participate. The Marching Machine performs different genres of music and incorporates all styles of marching and maneuvering. The unit is a source of pride for the university and the community.
MU Health Care has become the official sponsor of Marching Mizzou with a $100,000K annual contribution for the next four years! These retention scholarships of $750 will be automatic if a student is eligible, so there is no need to apply. They are for 3rd-5th year members only and priority is given to those students in a health care related major. The goal is to retain seasoned students for leadership opportunities and add maturity in sound to the band.
Neither requirement must be memorized, and you are welcome to utilize your music so you can offer the best sample of your playing ability. Prior to playing, please state your name and high school (or the college you are transferring from to Mizzou.) Please send your audition materials to Brooke Danielsen, Coordinator of Large Instrumental Ensembles at mubands@missouri.edu. You will receive notice via email that your audition material has been successfully received.
All students accepted into Marching Mizzou are required to attend our Marching Mizzou Band Camp August 13-20, 2023, prior to the start of the fall semester and register for the course MUS_ENS 1841, Section 12: Instrumental Ensemble-Marching Mizzou. Early check-in for those living in residence halls will be arranged by Marching Mizzou. Additional details regarding our band camp and fall season are included in the first edition of our "Marching Mizzou Summer Newsletter" emailed to all accepted new members as well as returning members on June 1, 2023. Updates to our Marching Mizzou Summer Newsletter will be communicated throughout the summer until the start of our band camp in August.
If you are interested in auditioning, please first complete the Marching Mizzou Audition Application. Audition materials should then be submitted via an unlisted YouTube link to Brooke Danielsen, Coordinator of Large Ensembles, at mubands@missouri.edu. No audition material will be accepted past May 15, 2023, so please plan to submit a successful audition video on or before that date. You will receive notice via email that your audition material has been successfully received.

Champion of Champions - Participation in this field show competition allows marching bands the opportunity to compete in a prelims/finals format for the title of "Champion of Champions."
All prospective members of the Aggie Band are required to have had both high school playing and marching band experience as well as pass an audition with a director. Prospective cadets will be asked to play a prepared piece of music and demonstrate their sight-reading skills by sight-reading a march.
Spring Semester ActivitiesIn the spring semester, members of the band remain full members of the Corps of Cadets and the Aggie Band represents the university at various parades and campus military reviews. In addition to these activities, members of the Aggie Band may choose to participate in the Aggieland Dance Orchestra, the University Wind Symphony, Symphonic Winds, Symphonic Band, Concert Band or the University Jazz Ensemble during the fall or spring semesters.
2. Taking FlightIn this movement, we explore the beauty and awe of the Dragon. A beautiful French horn solo, accompanied by a small brass group, start this production. The melody is then expanded to the full band, building into a gorgeous impact in 3/4.
